In the baking world, rise is a common term – the leavening of dough. But in the case of Nick and Becca Van Liere, Rise is not just the name of their bakery, but a perfect way to describe the company’s growth. A meteoric rise.
Founded in 2014, Rise Authentic Baking Co. has gone from running out of a couple hundred doughnuts at an event (that were baked that morning), to selling at a baker’s dozen locations around the city (that includes The Søvengård who features Rise bread as part of their menu). And the icing on the cake (no more puns, promise), is the opening of a brick and mortar location located on the city’s west side!
Only allergy-free products come from the Rise kitchen. Everything they make is vegan, gluten-free and soy-free. But if you have any other food allergies, they will work with you to make sure you get what you need!
The number of items Rise offers today is impressive.
- Cakes and cupcakes
- Yum Tarts
- Cheesecakes/Cheesecake Bars
Not all of these are available every day at every location, but you’ll always see a good selection wherever, and whenever you visit.
Rise does special orders. We’ve ordered a cake for a birthday and can say you’ll make anyone’s birthday complete with a Rise cake! They’re also catering weddings and all sorts, just reach out to them if you have an event in need of baked goods.
The brick and mortar location is particularly exciting. We’ve had these moments in Grand Rapids where we feel like it is a landmark moment for the GR vegan movement. An all-vegan bakery is definitely one of those moments. If Grand Rapids is ready to support Rise, then just think of what’s next. Rise partnered with an already established company, Squibb Coffee and Wine Bar to help launch the bakery. They are offering other goodies on the savory side. The cute cafe has some seating as well.
Rise says they’ll continue to make and offer all the great things they do today but also feature some new items. We can’t wait to see what they cook up next.
